Transition

I made a big crock pot of overnight oatmeal for some folks to have for breakfast recently. It was chock full of apples, cinnamon and cranberries. There’s nothing like waking up to a house that smells like an apple pie!

As I was adding the finishing touches – a little maple syrup for good measure – I got to thinking about my crock pot. Specifically about the fact that this may be the last time I use it for a while. You see, spring is here (despite some of the winter weather we’ve been having) and I tend to only use my crock pot in fall and winter.

And that got me to thinking about the seasons, and contemplating which season was my favorite. I realized I like all the seasons! Each has its benefits – the full bloom of spring, the warmth of summer, the colors of fall, and the peaceful cold of winter.

The more I thought about each season, the more I realized my favorite isn't a single one. My favorite time of year is the transition from one season to another. Any one to any other. I enjoy the smells, the temperature variations, the wardrobe changes, the menu modifications, and the potential.

Some people like the beginning of a new year becasue of the opportunity to change, learn, grow, improve... That's how I feel about the transition from one season to another. It signals opportunity.

Merriam-Webster.com, defines TRANSITION as a “passage from one state, stage, subject or place to another.  Life is one big transition – where will you go next?
